Llewellyn Park, America’s 1st Planned Community

1 Park Way | West Orange, NJ

The families and community of Llewellyn Park welcome all who may be thinking of joining us in our beautiful community. Inside the park you will find friendly neighbors, winding roads, streams and ponds, majestic trees and a variety of flora.

Llewellyn Park was the first gated community in America, but you will find a friendly, diverse group of people from all backgrounds and ages, from young families with children to retirees who were born in the park. Parents consider Llewellyn Park a paradise for their children, where they can play in safety and explore the forests and streams. Approximately 100 children 18 years or younger live inside the park.

Llewellyn Park is unique in that it combines wooded country living with an easy 12 mile commute to New York City, and proximity to attractions such as the Montclair Art Museum and Newark Museum, restaurants from the 5 star High Lawn Pavilion to bistros in Montclair, South Orange and Maplewood, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark’s Prudential Center, many top notch golf courses, horseback riding, sports facilities for ice hockey, soccer, and tennis to name but a few. We are surrounded by several world class malls and are only five miles from Newark International Airport.

Since its beginning in 1857, the park has been home to many residents with familiar names – Colgate, Merck, Chubb, Stetson, and Thomas Edison, whose home Glenmont is a national historical park. Many of Llewellyn Park’s homes were designed by prominent American architects including Alexander Jackson Davis, Calvert Vaux, Charles McKim, Stanford White, and Robert A.M. Stern. The park has always been a refuge for those who value their privacy.

Seen on a map, Llewellyn Park is a green island, Haskell’s dream of a country Utopia has been surrounded by development, yet remains a sanctuary from the city. Park residents feel a kinship, a bond with each other that has formed a community. We invite you to join us.
