The mission of the Bloomfield Township Department of Inspections is to ensure adequate construction and maintenance of buildings and structures throughout the Township and to adequately protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people.

The Department of Inspections accomplishes this by administering to all construction within the Township. This consists of issuing permits for residential, commercial and industrial construction and certificates of approval and occupancy. The Department conducts inspections in order to determine that all work is completed in accordance with the State Uniform Construction Code and all applicable prior approvals. All Uniform Construction Code inspectors are licensed by the State of New Jersey as Class 1 inspectors, which is the highest rating offered by the State of new Jersey. The Department is self-supporting through fees generated from permits and certificates.

The Department of Inspections also administers the local Zoning Ordinance. Issues pertaining to uses of property, setbacks, lot coverage and other local ordinances are administered and inspected by the Zoning Official. The Department also administers and inspects for Certificates of Continued Occupancy for all property sales in the Township. Property maintenance inspections are also conducted by department inspectors. Enforcement is administered as mandated by the Bloomfield Township Code. All inspections may be scheduled by calling the Department between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The public service window is open 8:00am to 3:30pm. Monday-Friday. As of June, 15, 2015 Also, we do not take cash in the office. We accept check, money order, Credit Cards, only.
